Fun for the Fourth and more!

Fun season kicks into high gear this weekend in Northern Michigan! Picnics, and polkas, cherries and fireworks, with a little hockey thrown in!
 
The Great American Picnic!
Sunday, July 5th from 1-4pm
Bring the whole family to the Hagerty Center for Cherry Brats and chicken wings, salads and cherry brownies for dessert, plus, the picnic grounds are a great vantage point for the Cherry Festival airshow! Tickets are $32.50 for adults and $16.50 for children. A cash bar will also be available. More info here.
 
Cedar Polka Fest
Celebrate Cedar’s Polish heritage with a weekend full of polka music, food and fun! It all begins with the flag-raising ceremony on Thursday, the Parade Saturday at noon, and the ever-popular Polka Mass on Sunday at 11. Click here for more details.
 
Detroit Red Wings Development Camp
Hockey in July? Heck yeah! Come out to Centre Ice Arena and see the newest additions to the Red Wings with on and off ice workouts July 3-7th. Plus, this year, camp attendees will meet the public at a special autograph signing at the National Cherry Festival, Sunday at 6pm. More info here.

Stars, Strips and Splatter 5K
Grand Traverse Resort & Spa, 10am July 4th
It’s a Color Run for the whole family! There will be 6 “splatter stations” along the route featuring patriotic colors. The 3.1 mile course will start at Jazz Live Field and loop twice back to the start area, with all portions of the race staying on Resort property. Although this race is not timed, awards will be given to the Fastest Male and Female Runners as well as to the Best Dressed Runner so get your best Independence Day gear on and come ready to have fun! The race will be followed by an after party with refreshments, including beverages from Shorts, live music and a spray down area. More info here.

Star Spangled Fourth on Mackinac Island
It’s a historic celebration! Visit Fort Mackinac for the 38 Gun Salute, Soldier demonstrations, dancing, canon firing and more from one of the only two remaining all original Revolutionary War Forts in America.  Take part in the annual Stone Skipping contest,  and participate in Victorian dances and games.  There’s live music in the park with the Accidentals at 8pm, and of course, enjoy great fireworks over the straits of Mackinac at dusk.
