From Port Oneida to the Bear River…. there is a lot to do this weekend!

It's another perfect weekend to head out and explore the north! From car shows to art fairs, wine to helping clean up the Bear River… whatever makes you smile, there is an event for you!

Port Oneida Fair, Aug 12-13, 10-4, Sleeping Bear Dunes
Take a step back in time at the Port Oneida Fair and experience life as it was in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Imagine the life of the pioneers as you help bale hay or watch a broom-maker at work. Learn about spinning, basket weaving, soap making, butter making, candle dipping, and fur trapping. Listen as park rangers and local history experts share the area's history. Watch as teams of oxen and horses cut, load, and haul hay and artists and craftsmen demonstrate their skills.

The fair is held at 6 of the historic farmsteads in Port Oneida. Each farm has a variety of artists, crafts, food, and activities for visitors. A shuttle bus runs between the farms on a regular schedule during the fair, so you can park your car and easily get around to the different venues.

17th Annual Alden Sports Car Show, Aug 13 and 14, downtown Alden
The Twin Bay British Car Club show features sports cars from all over the world – no hot rods, motorcycles, trucks, or replicas, just sports cars! Vehicles from Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, Japan and the U.S.A. have all attended in the past. Over 100 entries yearly in the village of Alden.

Northport Wine Festival, Aug 13, 1-6
Make your plans now for a beautiful day looking out on the water and enjoying some of the finest wines northern Michigan has to offer. The wine festival follows the dog parade and is both dog and kid friendly — dogs and children five and under get in free, ages 6-20 are $5.  The festival runs from 1 – 6 p.m. and features great food, a beautiful view of the Northport Harbor, wonderful wines, beers and ciders produced north of M-204 in Leelanau County and the music of Big Boss Blues!

Alanson Riverfest, Aug. 11-14
Lots to do in Alanson with music, beer tent, food, the Saturday night boat parade, antique fair, Petoskey Steel Drum Band and so much more.

The 2016 "Healing the Bear" Bear River Cleanup will take place along the Bear River in Emmet and Charlevoix Counties on Saturday, August 13th from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. beginning at the Bear River Shelter in Petoskey.  Volunteers of all ages and abilities are invited to walk, wade, or canoe as they pick trash and debris from the area surrounding the Bear River. Canoe volunteers are especially needed this year! All pre-registered volunteers will receive a free light breakfast, an event t-shirt, and a free lunch. To register, please call (231) 347-1181
