The Science behind why you hate scary movies

I have never been a scary movie fan. Since I was a kid, I have tried to steer clear of anything scary- especially the ones that seem like they could really happen.
Clowns have especially bothered me. My neighbor used to dress up as a clown and there was just something about it that totally freaked me out. Don’t get me wrong, he was a really nice guy who entertained tons of kids over the years, but that costume just really scared me.
So when I read they were re-making the movie “IT” there was no question that I would be avoiding it at all costs. I have lots of friends who invited me to go and just didn’t get why I couldn’t handle it, considering it’s fiction, but something inside of me just cannot handle it.
If you feel the same way I do, there is a true scientific reason why. You may be a highly sensitive person, or maybe there is a childhood event that has caused your fear of scary movies. Check out this article to find out more about how science plays a part in your fear.
