Did you know a very common artificial sweetener can be deadly for dogs? Xylitol, found in almost all gum and other food products can kill a dog in hours. I have had two friends with very sick dogs from accidental xylitol poisoning. They were lucky and the dogs pulled through, but not after a lot of tears and huge vet bills.
But here’s the really scary part. Xylitol is now showing up in many non-food products from deodorants, face gels, hair products and baby wipes. Apparently, it produces a cooling sensation to the skin and is not being used in places no one would ever think to check.
That is leading to a big problem for vets and poison control lines. A baby wipe could become a silent killer because no one would think to connect a baby wipe to Xylitol.
