Pet of the Week 2024

If you are looking for a new furry family member for your home, please consider adopting from one of our area shelters. There are thousands of pets each year in Northern Michigan who lose their family for one reason or another. Rescue is love!

Hello, I’m Penelope. I love to explore whether it be going on walks, adventuring the yard, or sniffing out a scavenger hunt throughout the house. I’m more than just a cute face, I have a heart full of love to give and you’ll never meet a dog more loyal than me! Bring me home and let’s discover the world together!

You can meet anytime between 10-5. To learn more about them or fill out an adoption application, visit ltbhs.com.

Hello, I’m Xanadu. I like to think of myself as a mellow companion, content to sit by your side and purr softly. I’d love a home to call my own and I hope my family comes soon!

The LTBHS located on West Conway Road, between Petoskey and Harbor Springs is a no kill shelter that helps find homes for over 500 dogs and cats each year. The LTBHS is completely funded thru donations. All pets adopted from LTBHS are neutered and have received a vet check and shots. For more information about all pets available for adoption or to donate, visit them online at www.ltbhs.com

Cherryland Humane Society

Well hello there, my name is Daisy and I really am as sweet as honey! I love to play, snuggle, take walks (to sniff all the critters who were there before me), sleep right next to your side, hoard my toys, and steal bananas. Mmhmm, I agree, I do sound adorable! And I am only 40lbs!How did I end up at CHS you may ask… My previous family loved me lots, but unfortunately my mom got really sick and was no longer able to offer me the care I needed. Yeah, it was hard to adjust to shelter life, but I did it! Go me! AND I have made some awesome new friends! Which is pretty impressive for me because new friends do make me nervous. A family who can be patient with me is a must. I communicate beautifully when I need space or some help, so a friend who is a great listener would be perfect for my dainty heart. Once we have broken the ice, I ADORE my humans. My best friend at the shelter, Rebecca, is my favorite human. I see her and I light up! My booty wiggles, my smile widens, and I can’t help but hug and kiss her. I can’t wait to have this bond with my new family.

Think we could become friends, or better yet, family!?

Cherryland Humane Society is a private, no kill animal shelter servicing Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties. We are an independent, 501-C, non profit organization. CHS is dependent on donations, fundraising activities, estates, planned giving, memorials and occasional grants for operation. Visit our available pets online at cherrylandhumane.org

TC PAWS

HENRY is one of the Kalkaska 38, a huge hoarding situation rescue TC Paw did over Labor Day weekend. He is a big, gentle guy who loves to be petted and have his back rubbed.  His foster family says he may be frightened at first and want to hide, but he will come out of hiding, and then you’ll have a great pet, though he still likes to have his own little hidey spot where he can go to if he does get scared.
Henry gets along with other cats. He hasn’t been around kids and dogs, but he has such a gentle disposition that we think he’d be okay after a careful introduction. Because Henry does scare
easily, his foster mom feels a quieter home might be best for him. Henry is 2 1/2 years old. He is a very handsome boy, a domestic long hair tabby.  If you would like to meet Henry, go to our website at www.tcpaw.org and fill out our adoption questionnaire.  A TC Paw volunteer will contact you.

TC Paw Cat Rescue was formed in the Spring of 2023 after the well-known northern Michigan rescue group AC PAW retired their rescue program for cats and dogs. Their mission is helping cats and kittens in the greater Traverse City region through rescue, spay/neuter, fostering, adoption, education and community collaboration.

From the Charlevoix Humane Society

This little doll is Honey! Honey found herself her as a stray and looked like she had recently had puppies. We were able to get her spayed, current on vaccines and microchipped. Now she is ready to find her forever home!Honey is very sweet to her people and loves attention. She could use a little refresher on her manners as she does tend to jump up. Honey is very small for her breed weighing in at only about 30 pounds full grown. She is not a fan of the other dogs here and we are unsure of how she would be with cats. Besides the jumping, Honey would likely do well with children.

The Charlevoix Human Society’s mission is to practice and promote the principle that every life is precious. As such, we are committed to the highest principles of humane care and professional treatment of injured, ill, neglected or abused animals. For more information on pets that are available for adoption or to donate, visit the shelter at 614 Beardsley Street in Boyne City or online at www.charlevoixhumane.org

From AuSable Valley Animal Shelter

Meet Hoobley, a five-year-old male large mix. This boxer shaped boy is a big ham who loves to cuddle on his blankets. He is rather laid back here at the shelter and we are hoping he can show off some energy in a forever home. As you can see from the pictures,
Hoobley LOVES to play fetch. He had a great time in the yard with volunteer Traci and Julie. Hoobley hasn’t made any doggy friends here at the shelter yet but would love to meet any current dogs in your home! Maybe they can be his new friends! We are not sure how Hoobley feels about cats. Hoobley is neutered, up to date on his vaccinations and ready to find his new family. If you would like to meet Hoobley, or would like more information about this friendly guy, please call the shelter at 989-348-4117 or email us at AVASCares2@gmail.com.

AuSable Valley Animal is a privately funded nonprofit animal shelter. We are a No Kill facility and stray center for dogs within Crawford county and a closed admission No Kill cat shelter. Our main goals are rehab and rehome, education, and animal welfare within our community.

From Cheboygan County Humane Society

Daphne is an 8 month old female bulldog mix. She is very sweet and loves attention. She is still a puppy, so she does have quite a bit of energy but for her age she is pretty relaxed and layed back. Daphne has gotten along with other dogs, cats and children in the past. She will require some training such as house-training, leash-training and crate-training, but she is a smart girl and she’s very eager to learn. Daphne is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. Her adoption fee is $150.

Please visit their website at cheboyganhumanesociety.org. Or stop by the shelter at 1535 Hackleburg Road, Cheboygan. Call 231-238-8221 for more information. Shelter hours are Mon-Fri 9-4pm and Saturday noon-4pm.
