Pet of the Week 2026

If you are looking for a new furry family member for your home, please consider adopting from one of our area shelters. There are thousands of pets each year in Northern Michigan who lose their family for one reason or another. Rescue is love!

Cherryland Humane Society

Name: Rambo
Info: Male, 7 years old
Days At the Shelter: 49 days

Hey there, I’m Rambo!

Like my namesake, I’m a man of action! I love to play and chase balls, chew soft toys and spend time outside. Unlike the Rambo from the movie, however, I’m looking for an easy retirement full of patches of sun, sleepy afternoons, and plenty of play time. Once I get my wiggles out, I’m a snugglebug, and I would love to spend my time cuddling up with you on the couch for a movie, or maybe even hogging the covers in bed! My stomach is definitely the way to my heart, and if you have snacks, you may just become my new best friend. I’m not just a big beefy love-bug, I’m also pretty smart- I love to do a puzzle toy or a snuffle mat. My perfect family is one who will love to play hard, snuggle hard, and rest hard!

I am 7 years young, and have potential with kids 12+, but no kitty cats please. Please ask my friends at the shelter about my medical needs!

If you’re looking for the heart of an action hero, in a sweet snuggly package I might be your perfect match!

We are an independent, 501-C, non profit organization. CHS is dependent on donations, fundraising activities, estates, planned giving, memorials and occasional grants for operation. Visit our available pets online at cherrylandhumane.org

Say hello to Sandy!

She is the sweetest little lady whose snuggles are legendary among our staff. Sandy absolutely loves meeting new people! She can get a little over-excited during initial introductions—which sometimes results in a tiny happy puddle—but she settles down quickly once she knows she’s safe and loved.

If you’d like to meet her, please stop by the Charlevoix Area Humane Society anytime Monday-Saturday between 12-5. You can set up an appointment by calling the Charlevoix Area Humane Society at 231-582-6774.

TC Paw Cat Rescue

This week, we have a pair of two year old kittens. They are not bonded, but can be adopted together or separately. Our first cat is Myrtle and the second is Cleopatra!

Meet Pete 🐾

Pete is a fun and energetic boy. He loves to be petted and is good with others. Pete has one odd little quirk – he hisses at random times but never means harm behind it. That’s just Pete!

Pete may be reserved at first but once comfortable – get ready! This boy is very chatty and loves to be the center of attention. He will even meow at you to ask for attention. He loves to run up against you for even more attention.

Pete came from a multi-cat situation and with his great personality will likely blend well with other pets and people.

As a bonus, this boy can hunt! He found a mouse in his foster’s home on his first day – good job Pete!

Meet Allie!

A kind-hearted person found Allie and her four kittens and reached out to TC Paw for help. We placed the little family in a loving foster home, where Allie proved to be a devoted, attentive mom. Now that her kittens have gone off to their own homes, Allie is ready to relax and find a family of her own.

Quiet and laid-back, Allie may take a little time to warm up, but once she does, she’s a sweet and gently vocal cat who enjoys attention, being near her people, and—of course—food. Her beautiful coat and striking eyes make her just as lovely on the outside as she is within.

Allie gets along well with kids and other cats and would thrive best in a calm, peaceful home. Her foster family welcomes visits, so you can meet Allie in the comfortable environment where she truly shines.

If you would like to meet Pete and/or Allie, fill out a pre-adoption questionnaire, and a TC Paw volunteer will contact you.

AuSable Valley Animal Shelter

Hey Friends! My name is Heidi, and I’m a Pure-Bred German Shepherd, and I don’t like to think of myself as a senior, rather a señorita!

You see, I just celebrated my 10th birthday, and I definitely didn’t see myself spending here at the shelter, but my shelter friends helped me make the best of it.

My owner unfortunately got into a little bit of trouble, and he had to bring me into the shelter so that I could find a new home.

Things you should know about me, I’m not a puppy, so chewing up your shoes, your clothes, all that stuff is way behind me. I’m potty trained, spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and up to date on my heartworm testing.

I’m looking for a place I can call my retirement home. I enjoy lounging around, taking walks, and life at a slower pace. I might enjoy living with another doggo friend, provided I meet them first and we get along. I’m not sure about cats, I don’t remember if I’ve ever lived with any, but with some time and a proper introduction, I might do well.

If you’re looking for someone to spend some lazy sunny afternoons, and leisurely walks with, I’m your girl! Come meet me at the shelter Tuesday-Saturday 10am-6pm. If you have questions, reach out my friends at AVASCares2@gmail.com or call 989-348-4117. Hope to see you soon.

Cheboygan County Humane Society

Meet Ralo!

Ralo is a 6-year-old German Shepherd mix searching for a home where he can settle in, soak up attention, and enjoy the good life.

This handsome guy may have a stubborn streak now and then, but he’s also incredibly loving and thrives on human companionship. If you’re looking for a dog who wants to be part of your day and happily accept all the pets and attention you’re willing to give, Ralo is your guy.

Ralo enjoys the simple pleasures in life—playing ball, going for walks, and relaxing in the comfort of air conditioning after a day of fun. He’s at an age where he still enjoys activity but also appreciates a cozy place to unwind.

Ralo is scheduled to be neutered and will also be undergoing corrective eye surgery, helping him feel his best as he prepares for his next chapter.

Potential adopters should know that Ralo has a prey drive and enjoys chasing cats and birds, so a home without cats would be best. If there are other dogs in the home, slow and proper introductions will be important to help everyone get off on the right paw.

While we are unsure how Ralo does with children, he is a friendly dog. Any introductions should be gradual, respectful, and allow him the space he needs to become comfortable at his own pace.

Ralo is looking for a family that understands him, appreciates his personality, and will give him the patience, structure, and love he deserves. In return, you’ll gain a loyal companion who is ready to be your best friend.

Could Ralo be the missing piece in your family? Apply to meet him today!
