Films, fireworks, dogs and polka! It’s just another Up North Summer Weekend.

It’s one of my favorite weekends! TC Film Festival and Elk Rapids Harbor Days…. culture, films and elephant ears all in one weekend!
Traverse City Film Festival, July 30-Aug 4
From July 30th to August 4th, movie buffs are lured away from the beaches and golf courses with an outstanding selection of independent, foreign, and documentary films, as well as premieres, parties, panel discussions, and lectures about the world of film at the annual Traverse City Film Festival. Most events are held near downtown — at the vintage State Theatre, Bijou by the Bay, the City Opera House, and the Old Town Playhouse, but there are also many free festival opportunities including the family movies shown each night at an outdoor screen at the Open Space Park on the shore of West Grand Traverse Bay. Get the complete schedule of events at TraverseCityFilmFest.org

Elk Rapids Harbor Days, July 31-Aug 3
Carnival, food, movies, midway rides, lots of fun events, beverage tent, ending with Saturday’s parade, boat parade and fireworks. Get all elkrapidsharbordays.org

Polish Festival, Aug 1-4, Boyne Falls
This is a northern Michigan tradition you don’t want to miss! Polish food and Polish music are just the beginning.  There’s also rides and games at the carnival, horse and tractor pulls, a music-filled oldies night, parades and more. Bring your polka shoes and plan on dancing the night away! For further details on Polish Festival, visit boynefallspolishfestival.com

Woof Stock, Aug 3rd at Mackinaw Trail Winery

Show your love for animals and come to the 6th annual WoofStock Pet and Music Festival! The day will be a full day event to celebrate a wide variety of music in support the Northwest Michigan Region and the animals we love.
This festive fundraiser will be held at the facility and grounds of the beautiful Mackinaw Trails Winery on 131 just south of Petoskey.  There will be bands performing all day and a hosted open mike stage.
Food, craft and pet related vendors will be in attendance to sell and show off their products and services. Mackinaw Trails Winery will provide Beer and Wine Sales during the event.  A wonderful “Silent Auction” will be on hand for your bidding pleasure.
Admission is by donation for a full day of music, entertainment, and fun for the whole family and your people-friendly dog! More info at http://www.charlevoixhumane.org

Breakfast on the Schooner, Saturday, Aug 3
Join a 2.5-hour unique sailing experience aboard the 77-foot schooner Inland Seas. This sail will depart from the Capt. Thomas M. Kelly Biological Station in Suttons Bay and return to shore at Discovery Pier in Traverse City. Enjoy a homemade hot breakfast prepared for you while under sail on this traditionally rigged ship. Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, fruit, coffee/tea, and more! Transportation back to your vehicle will be provided (additional 30-45 minutes at end of trip).
You will have the opportunity to help hoist the sails and steer the ship or just relax and enjoy the ride. Crew and staff will be available to answer your questions and provide schooner yarns (stories) when requested.
