It’s the season of morels and this weekend is the biggest celebration of the elusive fungi in the United States…. The National Morel Mushroom Festival, is May 15-18 in Boyne City. Enjoy a weekend full of morels including carnival, an arts and craft fair in Veterans Park, Thursday night’s Battle of the Bands, Friday’s Morel dinner, Saturday’s competitive morel hunt, the Taste of Morels with Lite 96.3’s Diane Hansell as a judge and the Motherload Bash, finishing Sunday with a morel paint and sip, the final day of the carnival and craft fair. Kick off the weekend in Traverse City with a fun new event. Live After 5, starts this Friday, from 5-8pm in downtown TC. Get the fun started with an evening entertainment series featuring free outdoor performances by emerging & established artists. If you like murder mysteries, this is one should be fun and for a good cause. The Salvation Army of Petoskey is hosting Murder on the Grill at its community center, 2350 Mitchell Park Drive on Saturday, May 17 at 6:00 p.m. to support world missions efforts in Kenya. Murder On The Grill is set in 1959 with actors including Lite 96.3’s Tim Nixon. Guess “who done it” while enjoying a traditional American grilled chicken dinner with potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw and dessert. Enter the “Best Dressed 1959” contest. And if you’re looking for family fun, head to Eastport. The Petoskey Stone Festival is Saturday starting at 10am in Barnes Park. Join in for a family-friendly celebration of Michigan’s beloved fossilized treasure, our state stone! Live entertainment featuring Tommy Tropic & Kenny Thompson. A brand-new petting zoo, Stone Skipping Contest, A Petoskey Stone Hunt, handmade vendors with Petoskey stones, gems & much more.
Saturday night, grab your friends and head to Elk Rapids. Strut the Streets is Saturday afternoon and evening starting at 3pm in Downtown Elk Rapids. Celebrate the start of spring with local businesses, neighbors, & friends. Enjoy shopping, tasty treats, pop-ups, giveaways, cocktails + snacks, & a fashion show. Cocktail hour at The Dam Shop from 3-4pm. Fashion Show starts at 4pm. Strut the Streets promptly following the fashion show; strut down River St. & enjoy your favorite local shops.
