Fun for the First Weekend in Summer

This Saturday will kick of the official start to summer, and there will be no shortage of fun or warmth, so get outside and enjoy the start of a northern Michigan summer!

If you enjoy classic cars and boat, then you’ll love the Bay Harbor Classic Car & Boat Festival this Saturday starting at 10AM in Bay Harbor. This festival will feature a collection of the finest classic, future classic & rare cars & boats in the country. This year’s show will feature the first Mustang ever built & the only full collection of all 7 models of Ford cars built in 1957. The festival is free for spectators. East Jordan has an extended weekend of fun with the annual East Jordan Freedom Festival, now through Saturday night. It features a carnival, cornhole tournament, Friday night block party, Saturday kids events, grand parade, and fireworks over Lake Charlevoix. The Bear River Crawl to Benefit Northern Michigan Cancer Crusaders on Saturday at 8am will be a great wat to have fun and get your steps in, so lace up your sneakers and support a great cause at the 21st Annual Bear River Crawl 5K Family Fun Run/Walk, hosted by Northern Michigan Sports Medicine Center. The event at Bayfront Park in downtown Petoskey. Participants of all ages and abilities to enjoy a scenic morning along the Bear River while raising funds for a cause that directly benefits families in Northern Michigan. Proceeds from the race will support the Northern Michigan Cancer Crusaders, a local nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that 100% of funds raised stay in our community to assist individuals affected by cancer. Participants can register online at nmsportsmed.com/events/bear-river-crawl-5k-10k-run or by calling (231) 347-9300. Strollers and leashed dogs are welcome, making it a fun and inclusive morning for the whole family. Come walk, run, or crawl to make a difference—because every step supports someone in our community.

Also, you can celebrate the start of summing in Petoskey with the Downtown Petoskey Flower Festival. Celebrate the beauty of nature at the first annual Downtown Petoskey Flower Festival! Stroll through the charming streets of downtown as they come alive with vibrant floral installations, creative workshops, and unique botanical experiences. If food, a parade and games sound like fun, you’ll love the 44th Annual Ellsworth/Atwood Pig Roast on Friday and Saturday, both days starting at 10am at the community park in Ellsworth. Here is what you can look forward to…

FRIDAY
• 5pm Cornhole Tournament at Ellsworth Community Park
• Ice Cream Social, Food Truck, Kids Cake Walk
• Evening Paddle hosted by Paddle Antrim

SATURDAY, JUNE 21
• 8am 2 Mile Championship Race starting at Ellsworth River Park
• Run or Walk, Registration 7-7:45am before the race.
• 11am Pig Roast Parade (Line-up starts at 10am) Starts at High School Parking Lot, ends at Community Park
• 12-2pm Roast Pork Lunch at Ellsworth Community Park
Pulled pork tacos or sandwiches and kielbasa, along with choice of potato or pasta salad, baked beans, macaroni & cheese & coleslaw. $15 (cash only).
