Pet of the Week 2025

If you are looking for a new furry family member for your home, please consider adopting from one of our area shelters. There are thousands of pets each year in Northern Michigan who lose their family for one reason or another. Rescue is love!

Cherryland Humane Society

This week, we have a bonded pair of 8 month old young cats as our Pets of the Week

Name: Betty
Info: Female, 8 months
Description:
Meet Betty! A beautiful, gentle, playful, shy kitten who’s deeply bonded with her sister, Boop. She’s looking for a calm, patient home that understands shy cats and is willing to put in the time and love she needs to thrive.

Though cautious, Betty is food motivated and starts to come out of her shell during mealtime and playtime -enjoys head pets, will roll over for belly pets, loves showing affection in her quiet, subtle ways. She loves both tall and short cat trees, sunny windows, chasing toys, and her sister.

Betty won’t be a lap cat overnight, but with steady care and the support of her sister Boop, she has so much love to give. These are special girls who just need the right person to believe in them, could that person be you?

Name: Boop
Info: Female, 8 months
Description:

Introducing: Boop! This gorgeous baby is a shy but playful kitten, closely bonded with her sister, Betty. They are both looking for a quiet, patient home that understands shy cats and is ready to help them build confidence at their own pace.

Though timid, Boop comes alive during playtime-chasing toys, racing her sister, and climbing high to perch above the world (and her humans!). She loves sunbathing, zooming through the house, and occasionally curling up on the bed at night.

Boop is not yet a fan of being picked up, but she’s learning to enjoy gentle chin scratches and tail pets, especially during treat time. Ready to double your joy with this dynamic duo? Betty and Boop are waiting to meet their match!

Cherryland Humane Society is a private, no kill animal shelter servicing Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties. We are an independent, 501-C, non profit organization. CHS is dependent on donations, fundraising activities, estates, planned giving, memorials and occasional grants for operation. Visit our available pets online at cherrylandhumane.org

TC PAWS

Nugget
2 years old
Male, short haired domestic tabby
Neutered and micro-chipped
Up to date on vaccinations

Hi I’m Nugget. I am the sweetest kitty you will ever meet. I was one of the original 38 cats rescued from a hoarding situation in Kalkaska in August 2023.

I had a sensitive tummy (as so many of the cats from that situation did) but was doing well on special food when I was adopted last spring. I was found in a live trap last fall when TC Paw as looking for a lost cat. My adopter had moved away and left me outside (never reported me missing or looked for me).

I had lost lots of weight and had bloody diarrhea when I was found. I have now had extensive vet care including biopsies to confirm that I have inflammatory bowel disease. I’m weaning down on medications and have special food (I’ve gotten a bit pudgy on my medication!).

I’m doing great and really deserve a stable, safe home where someone will show me love and affection. I’m a young guy, I like other animals and am so gentle with children.

But I may need some ongoing vet care to be sure I stay plump and healthy.

If you are interested in adopting this TC Paw cat or would like to set up a meet-and-greet, please complete the  Pre-adoption Application .

Their mission is helping cats and kittens in the greater Traverse City region through rescue, spay/neuter, fostering, adoption, education and community collaboration.

Charlevoix Humane Society

Meow-dy there!
My name is Momo it’s so nice to meet you! I found myself here after being surrendered to the shelter by my owner after a change in living situation. I may be a little bit older than some of the other cats here, but I’m ready to enjoy my retirement in a brand-new forever home of my own. Do you think it could be yours? The humans say I’m a very sweet and affectionate cat. I would even do well in a home with children of all ages as long as they can respect my space! If you stop by, you’re sure to hear me. I can be awfully vocal when I have something to say, and more often than not I do. How else am I supposed to ask to be petted? Sometimes I don’t get along well with other cats. I’m not one to share, so I think that I would prefer a home where the attention will be solely mine. But I might be able to make an exception for you and share the couch. As long as we can cuddle, I think I could be persuaded. If you’re in need of a four-legged shadow, I’m your guy. We could do all sorts of fun things together if you give me a chance!

Little Traverse Bay Humane Society

Meet Emma, our sweet 2-year-old kitty with the softest heart and the silkiest fur! Weighing in at a cuddly 12 pounds, Emma has been through quite a journey. Due to severe periodontal disease, she had to have all of her teeth removed—but thanks to the care and support of our shelter team, she’s now pain-free and thriving!
Don’t let her toothless grin fool you—Emma is full of love, purrs, and head-bump snuggles. She adores gentle head rubs and is always ready to curl up next to you for some quiet companionship.
Emma is looking for a calm, loving forever home where she can feel safe and adored.

The Little Traverse Bay Humane Society is at 1300 West Conway Road or online at LTBHS.com. They are a private, no kill shelter serving Emmet County.

AuSable Valley Animal Shelter

Hi there! My name is Sabrina – Sabrina Bark-Penter to be exact! That’s right, I look just like the real-life Sabrina Carpenter, I even have blonde hair just like her – I’m so pretty!
A little bit more about me, I am a medium mixed breed girl, I’m roughly 3 years old, and I weigh in at a slim 47lbs. I’ve been spayed, I’m vaccinated, microchipped, and I’m up to date on my heartworm testing!

To be honest with all of my new friends, my start to life was not all that it should have been, but I’m working on my next chapter – looking forward to starting it in a loving home like yours! I am a very outgoing girl, with lots of kisses and snuggles to give! I’m a great leash walker, I am learning my manners, I am very smart & food motivated! I would do best in a home without other dogs, or cats. I am a little bit of a wiggle butt, but I have a gentle spirit – I’d likely do well in a home with children that are stable on their feet. I love to run and play in the yards, and I would love an active home that can help me keep my girlish figure!

I am available to meet you, anytime Tuesday–Saturday from 10am–6pm – feel free to bring some tasty snacks. If you have questions about me, or any of my idol’s hit songs – please reach out to my friends at AVASCares2@gmail.com or by phone at 989-348-4117. Hope I get to meet and jam with you soon!
