Pet of the Week 2025

If you are looking for a new furry family member for your home, please consider adopting from one of our area shelters. There are thousands of pets each year in Northern Michigan who lose their family for one reason or another. Rescue is love!

Cherryland Humane Society

Joseph is a distinguished older gentleman at 12 years old, looking for a place to spend his golden years. He’s affectionate, curious and would like nothing more than a beam of sunlight, and a lap to sit on. He’s been a little shy in the shelter, but with some gentle love and care, he would make a great companion and a purrfect friend!

Cherryland Humane Society is a private, no kill animal shelter servicing Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties. We are an independent, 501-C, non profit organization. CHS is dependent on donations, fundraising activities, estates, planned giving, memorials and occasional grants for operation. Visit our available pets online at cherrylandhumane.org

TC PAWS

Bravo
Domestic Short Hair / Tabby
Small Baby Male (neutered)
4-5 months old

TC Paw rescued Bravo from under a trailer in Meadow Lane and placed him in a foster home for socialization. He was a shy little guy at first, but he has really blossomed in just a couple of weeks. Bravo loves to play!

He’ll play with you if you’ll pull a string with something interesting dangling from it for him, or with the resident cat and dog, or by himself. He can entertain himself with a variety toys or by watching the out of doors from atop his condo. He’s high energy.

He plays and plays and plays, and he’s awake during the day more than most kittens. The good part is that he sleeps at night and doesn’t wake his foster mom.

Bravo loves to be petted and will arch his back and roll into the pet. He hasn’t been around children, but we think he’d be okay with older kids, maybe 12 or older.

It may take time for Bravo to warm to his new home, but he is a cute, inquisitive kitten, a bit shy, who just needs a quiet home and a little patience to be a loving, fun cat.

If you are interested in adopting these TC Paw cats or would like to set up a meet-and-greet, please complete the  Pre-adoption Application .

TC Paw Cat Rescue was formed in the Spring of 2023 after the well-known northern Michigan rescue group AC PAW retired their rescue program for cats and dogs. Their mission is helping cats and kittens in the greater Traverse City region through rescue, spay/neuter, fostering, adoption, education and community collaboration.

Northern Purr Cat Rescue in St. Helen (Roscommon County)

Meet Taz! She is a senior gal at 12 years old looking for a quiet home. She is not a fan of dogs and has not been around cats. Her purrfect home would be an older couple or someone that will let her be the queen of the castle. She is ok being left alone. Taz does like to play. She is not a lap cat but will be close by to keep you company and will let you know when she would like attention.

Contact: Cathy Cleland with Northern Purr Rescue 989-387-1011.

Charlevoix Humane Society

This is Dobbie, a sweet, senior hound dog who would love to make your acquaintance! Dobbie came to us as a stray in August, and since then has stolen the hearts of dog walkers and staff alike. He enjoys going for long walks, and plays well alongside other dogs as far as we can tell. Dobbie is about 8 years old, but still loves running and playing just as much as any other good ‘ol dog.

Adopting a pet from the Charlevoix Area Humane Society not only changes the life of an animal but also enriches your own life in countless ways. If you would like to adopt one of our dogs or cats, you will need to fill out an application and once it is approved, we can then set up an appointment for a visit. Please call 231-582-6774 with any questions.

Little Traverse Bay Humane Society

Hi there! My name is Oso! (Yes, like the bear – but don’t worry, I’m more teddy than grizzly.) I’m a small black Havanese boy with big, soulful eyes, a soft curly coat, and a heart that’s just bursting with love to give. I may be little, but I have a HUGE personality (and an even bigger cuddle game). So, what do you say? Want to meet me and see if we’re meant to be?
Love & tail wags,
Oso

The Little Traverse Bay Humane Society is at 1300 West Conway Road or online at LTBHS.com. They are a private, no kill shelter serving Emmet County.

AuSable Valley Animal Shelter

Hi, I’m Lucas!

I’m a year-old Border Collie mix, so I’m packed with energy, brains, and a whole lot of love to give! If you’re an active person who loves outdoor adventures: I’m your guy! Whether it’s hiking, running, or playing fetch, I’ll be right there with you, giving it my all. I’m happiest when I’ve got a job to do—fetching a ball, learning new tricks, or just keeping my mind sharp.

But hey, don’t think it’s all work and no play! I’m a total cuddle bug too. After a fun play session, I’m all about snuggling up and giving you some love. Plus, I’m a pro on the leash—walking with me is a breeze!

Oh, and did I mention I love swimming? There’s nothing better than cooling off in the water after a busy day of play.

One thing to note: I’ve got a beautiful, fluffy Border Collie coat that will need some TLC! Regular brushing and grooming will keep me looking my best and help prevent tangles and mats. But don’t worry, I’ll enjoy the attention—plus, it’s a great bonding moment for us!

I’m neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm tested, and housetrained, so I’m ready to join your family and start our next adventure together. If you’re looking for a smart, active, affectionate companion who’s ready to work, play, and cuddle, I might just be the perfect match.

You can contact the shelter at 989-348-4117 or avascares2@gmail.com with any questions and to schedule a meet and greet. Can’t wait to meet you!
