Mid-September Up North Fun

It is almost the middle of September. The colors are changing a little throughout northern Michigan and the transition from summer to autumn is happening with a summer art show and a fall barn market. It is a wonderful time of year to experience what northern Michigan has to offer this weekend!

Let’s start with the 6th Annual Balloons Over Bay Harbor on Friday & Saturday at Bay Harbor Village. You don’t truly understand the scope and size of hot air balloon until you see one up close. Along with the balloons taking flight, enjoy more at Bay Harbor Village. Here is a schedule of events for Friday and Saturday…

Friday:
• 4pm: Artisan Vendor Market on Main Street OPEN Food Trucks: Brisket Barn, Wasabi Street Kitchen, The Rogue Pierogi.
Twister Joe Balloon Artist | Face Painting
• 5:30pm: Balloon Flight #1: Launch from Marina Lawn
• 8pm: Hot Air Balloon Night Glow on Marina Lawn Panels

Saturday:

• 10-4pm: Tethered Balloon Rides on Marina Lawn: ($25/Adult – $15/Kids)
• 10am: Artisan Market on Main Street & Face Painting

Summer is holding on in Cheboygan as the Made in Cheboygan Summer Craft Show Series continues this Saturday & Sunday, starting at 10AM both days in Washington Park. With over 30 vendors to visit and thousands of gifts to choose from, you will have a great shopping experience. Saturday morning is also the Farmers Market and Music on Main with live performances sprinkled around the downtown area.

The Traverse City Downtown Art Fair takes place this Saturday, starting at 10AM both days at Rotary Square on the corner of State & Union streets. This free, family-friendly event will feature dozens of talented artists & makers selling original fine art & handmade goods. As part of the inaugural TC Mural Festival (Sept. 12-17), the fair will also host a collaborative community mural project, inviting attendees to help create a public art piece that will be permanently installed downtown. Enjoy live art-making, shopping, food & drinks in a creative setting.

Another Traverse City area event has more of a fall theme… The Red Dresser Fall Barn Market, at the Northwest Michigan Fairgrounds. Happening this Friday & Saturday, this barn market will feature more than 125 vendors. Vintage finds, farm to table treats, local maker items, home decor, apparel & much more. Finally, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, Don Felder, will be taking the stage at Odawa Casino’s  Ovation Hall on Saturday. Don Felder was the lead guitarist of the rock band, Eagles, from 1974-2001. He is known for co-writing several of the band’s songs, most notably “Hotel California.” Tickets start at $45. More details: OdawaCasino.com
