Pet of the Week 2025

If you are looking for a new furry family member for your home, please consider adopting from one of our area shelters. There are thousands of pets each year in Northern Michigan who lose their family for one reason or another. Rescue is love!

Cherryland Humane Society

Stephanie is a ten year old, laid-back lady who’s the perfect mix of friendly and relaxed, with a little touch of hound charm! She might be a bit vocal when she’s looking for attention (we do love a dog who knows what she wants, right?), but that’s just part of her social butterfly personality. Whether you’re lounging at home or out on a walk, Stephanie’s ready to join in the fun with a wagging tail and a happy bounce.

Speaking of walks, if you’re looking for a great walking buddy, Stephanie is your girl! She’s amazing on the leash, making every walk feel like a breeze. And with her love for exploring, you’ll both have a blast together. She’s a natural when it comes to outings, just waiting for the next adventure.

She’s super gentle, affectionate, and loves being around people, making her the ideal companion for someone who’s ready to give her the attention she deserves. This lovable gal is also a huge fan of booty rubs – seriously, she’s OBSESSED. Stephanie will also play with soft squeaky toys and tennis balls! After a good play session she will settle in for a cozy nap at your feet.

She has potential with calm dogs and cats. Stephanie would also do best with kids who can respect her senior dog space and needs. With her easygoing vibe, loving nature, and passion for walks and booty rubs, Stephanie is just waiting for the right family to show her what forever feels like. Could that be you?

Cherryland Humane Society is a private, no kill animal shelter servicing Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties. We are an independent, 501-C, non profit organization. TC PAWS

This week, we have a bonded pair of kittens. Say hellow to Bernie & Milton

Bernie and Milton came to TC Paw when a kind woman asked us for help with a feral mom and kittens she found. We placed the kittens in a TC Paw foster home.

It took a few days for Bernie, the one with the little white patch on his chest, to trust his people, but now he is more interested in them all the time. He’s a sweet, adventurous, playful little guy who purrs whenever you walk in the room, as well as when he eats. He loves playing with his brother and dragging his toys around. He gets along with other cats, and he’s warming up to the foster family’s dog. His likes include teaser toys and closet hiding places. His one dislike is an empty food dish. Bernie may not be quick to trust, but earning his purr is worth it.

Milton was initially a shy, uncertain kitty, he has grown in confidence and shows his affectionate side more every day. He is playful, adventurous, and sweet. He purrs instantly when you hold and pet him, though he doesn’t like forced snuggles. He does like Churu treats and teaser toys. Milton gets along with other cats, and he’s warming up to the family dog.

If you are interested in adopting these or other TC Paw cats or would like to set up a meet-and-greet, please complete the  Pre-adoption Application .

TC Paw Cat Rescue was formed in the Spring of 2023 after the well-known northern Michigan rescue group AC PAW retired their rescue program for cats and dogs. Their mission is helping cats and kittens in the greater Traverse City region through rescue, spay/neuter, fostering, adoption, education and community collaboration.

Meet, Willow (gray) and her bonded fabulous feline friend, Lilith (brown tabby) ❤️ These two long fur ladies are bonded. Both kitties need a new home OR foster together, since their current human was facing a new housing situation and could not keep them. Willow is 3 years old and Lilith is 4 years old. Both kitties are spayed, up to date on vaccines and indoor. They’re affectionate, playful and love to be together bird watching or lounging in the sunshine. They would do well in a quiet home or someone experienced with indoor kitties.

Also…

Shayne is a grey tabby, spayed, rabies vaccinated, and combo tested negative. She has a head tilt that doesn’t seem to bother her or cause her pain and the vet did nit find anything wrong. She is friendly, rubs against your leg and wants pets! Shayne talks a little but haven’t seen her play with any toys. She was a good mom and raised her kittens. Now it is time she gets to be someone’s indoor kitty.

Charlevoix Humane Society

Meet Celeste!

Celeste is a roughly 2 Year old Shepherd and Terrier mix who arrived at the shelter on September 5th, as a transfer from VanBuren County. This pretty lady will melt your heart within minutes of asking for snuggles and attention. Who could say no to those big brown eyes?

Celeste loves belly rubs, walks, and playing with toys. She’s an expert at finding those pesky squeakers! A big softy who sometimes doesn’t realize her own size, Celeste could use a bit of work on her manners as she occasionally jumps in search of kisses and head scratches. Though staff say she is awfully polite for a shelter dog!

Celeste seems to do okay with some of the other dogs at the shelter. But if adopted into a home with multiple dogs, she would need to be monitored as she has shown some resource guarding tendencies toward other dogs in a home setting. Despite it all, Celeste is a big ball of love who can wiggle her way into anyone’s heart! If you’ve got a little extra room on your couch for a furry cuddle buddy, stop in and meet Celeste!

If you’d like to meet her or fill out an adoption application please reach out to the Charlevoix Area Humane Society. We’re open Monday-Saturday from 12-5.

Adopting a pet from the Charlevoix Area Humane Society not only changes the life of an animal but also enriches your own life in countless ways. If you would like to adopt one of our dogs or cats, you will need to fill out an application and once it is approved, we can then set up an appointment for a visit. Please call 231-582-6774 with any questions.

Hi! I’m Cain.

I’m a 3-year-old pitbull boy with a soft white coat and a few handsome brown spots that make me one of a kind! I came to the shelter a little too skinny, but I’m already learning that regular meals and kind people make life pretty amazing.

I’m a super loving guy who just wants to be close to you-whether that means cuddling up for naps or following you around to see what you’re up to. I’ve got a big heart and plenty of affection to share.

All I really need now is a forever home where I can finish filling out, keep learning what it means to be loved, and give all that love right back. If you’re looking for a loyal best friend, I think we’d make the perfect pair.

The Little Traverse Bay Humane Society is at 1300 West Conway Road or online at LTBHS.com. They are a private, no kill shelter serving Emmet County.

AuSable Valley Animal Shelter

Hi Friends! My name is Benji! That’s right – just like your favorite 1970’s movie star! While I can’t say I’ve ever helped a couple of kids escape being kidnapped – I’m can say I’m always down for an adventure!

A little about me -I am around 10 months to 1 year old, I’m neutered, vaccinated, and up to date on my heartworm testing. I was brought by a family that gave me the best start to life a dog could ask for! They taught me all the good things, potty training, proper interaction w/ adults and kids, and how to make friends with other dogs! What they couldn’t teach me, was how to turn off my prey drive around cats – so unfortunately, they turned to the shelter for help in finding me a home with out any of those things that meow.

I would love a home with an active family that can take me outside and do all the things! Running, hiking, farm duties, you name it – I’m ready for it! I wouldn’t mind living with another dog – but cats are too fun to chase.

If you’d like to meet me, you can stop by the shelter Tuesday-Saturday 10am-6pm. If you have questions reach out to AVASCares2@gmail.com or call 989-348-4117. As a reminder all adoption applications are processed on a first come, first serve basis, only once a meet and greet has taken place.

There is so many things to say about Arlo. Arlo has been with us just a couple short weeks but his arrival to CCHS was nothing short of dramatic. Arlo was on the run, for how long we’re not sure. Some concerned citizens were seeing him in random places through the woods, on the back roads but were never able to catch him. Throughout the few days that Animal Control were aware, they had a live trap set and ready to take him in. Arlo was sneaky though, he realized what that trap was about and would rather have seen some raccoons make the mistake of being caught than himself. However, Arlo got tired and realized that maybe these new people weren’t bad.

After an unknown amount of time being on the run after being left behind or dumped off, Arlo was caught by Animal Control and brought to CCHS. He is a sweet silly boy who really enjoyed his car ride back to the shelter once he got over the fear of the unknown. He was curled on the seat, enjoying some good snuggles. Due to his unfortunate circumstances, we’re not sure how old he is or even his real name!

It is estimated that Arlo is around a year old. Arlo had a great time with our photographer and trainer getting some awesome photos that we hope you truly enjoy. Arlo is bouncy, he is mouthy and loves to play. He does have some leash manners but like any dog can always use more training. Arlo is a little bigger than he realizes at 60 pounds so any kids in the house should realize that his puppy side may come out and he can accidentally knock someone over. He doesn’t mean it and he accepts correction, with time this boy will be the absolute best friend for the right people. We’re not too sure on his attitude with other dogs as he hasn’t interacted with many here at the shelter but we always test out temperaments with meet and greets anyway.

For more detials, go to cheboyganhumanesociety.org. Or stop by the shelter at 1535 Hackleburg Road, Cheboygan. Call 231-238-8221 for more information. Shelter hours are Mon-Fri 9-4pm and Saturday noon-4pm.
