Pet of the Week 2025

If you are looking for a new furry family member for your home, please consider adopting from one of our area shelters. There are thousands of pets each year in Northern Michigan who lose their family for one reason or another. Rescue is love!

Cherryland Humane Society

Hi! I’m Cookie, a cuddly companion in search of a forever home. My days are filled with gentle purrs and friendly meows. I love exploring every nook and cranny, always curious about my surroundings. Smart and mellow, I enjoy figuring out puzzles and relaxing by your side. If you need a loyal friend, I’m your cat. I promise to bring sweetness and warmth into your life.

Adopt me, and let’s start our journey of friendship and cuddles together. I am FIV+ (immune compromising virus); weakens the immune system; regular vet care is essential (keeping UTD on vaccines, monitoring for illness, etc); with proper management FIV+ cats will live long, healthy, happy lives. Another fun fact about Cookie is that he is front declawed.

Cherryland Humane Society is a private, no kill animal shelter servicing Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties. We are an independent, 501-C, non profit organization. CHS is dependent on donations, fundraising activities, estates, planned giving, memorials and occasional grants for operation. Visit our available pets online at cherrylandhumane.org

TC PAWS

CHARLIE and PETUNIA are two of the ten cats rescued from an elderly woman who could no longer care for them. They were in poor health and had not received any medical attention. After being placed in a loving foster home, they received the necessary care and are now thriving. Charlie, initially shy and anxious around people, is gradually learning to trust his foster family. He has a sweet disposition and will purr contentedly when held. His striking eyes and relaxed demeanor make him a delightful companion. Petunia, on the other hand, is a charming cuddle bug who adores being petted and snuggled. Both kittens, now seven months old, are friendly with children and other cats. We hope to see them adopted together or into a home where they can have a furry friend. If you’re interested in meeting Charlie and Petunia, please complete a pre-adoption questionnaire. A TC Paw volunteer will reach out to you!

Their mission is helping cats and kittens in the greater Traverse City region through rescue, spay/neuter, fostering, adoption, education and community collaboration.

Meet Monty!

Monty is a Welsh Corgi/Cardigan mixed breed that arrived to our shelter as an unclaimed stray. In our care he was recently neutered, micro-chipped and brought up to date on vaccinations. Monty can be nervous around new people or in situations he is unfamiliar with. But with a bit of patience, he’ll be crawling into your lap in no time.

In the short time that he has been here, he has already shown us just how much personality can fit in such a tiny package. We hope you’re ready for a new forever friend, because this little guy is sure to let you know just how much he likes attention! Monty is not fond of being restrained, and may require a slow approach. He could potentially do well in a home with another dog, but staff is unsure of how he may react to cats. A home without young children is recommended.

With an almost shepherd-like appearance, Monty is bound to be the prettiest pooch in any room he struts into. Stop by and say hello if Monty sounds like your guy!

If you’re interested in meeting Freya you can set up an appointment by calling the Charlevoix Area Humane Society at 231-582-6774. She can’t wait to meet you!

Little Traverse Bay Humane Society

I’m Bella, a nearly 7-year-old German Shepherd with a big heart, a gentle soul, and plenty of love (and tail wags!) to give.

I’ve got that perfect mix of maturity and playfulness – I’m past the puppy chaos, but I still enjoy my walks, a good squeaky toy, and sniffing around the backyard like it’s my job (because it kind of is). I adore being around my people – I’m the type to quietly curl up by your feet or follow you from room to room just to keep you company.

I’ve mastered all the important stuff like house manners, basic commands, and being a very good girl. All I need now is a loving home where I can shine. I’m spayed, up to date on all my shots, and my heart is wide open – just waiting for the right person to walk in and say, “She’s the one.”

The Little Traverse Bay Humane Society is at 1300 West Conway Road or online at LTBHS.com. They are a private, no kill shelter serving Emmet County.

AuSable Valley Animal Shelter

Hi there! My name is Sabrina – Sabrina Bark-Penter to be exact! That’s right, I look just like the real-life Sabrina Carpenter, I even have blonde hair just like her – I’m so pretty!
A little bit more about me, I am a medium mixed breed girl, I’m roughly 3 years old, and I weigh in at a slim 47lbs. I’ve been spayed, I’m vaccinated, microchipped, and I’m up to date on my heartworm testing!

To be honest with all of my new friends, my start to life was not all that it should have been, but I’m working on my next chapter – looking forward to starting it in a loving home like yours! I am a very outgoing girl, with lots of kisses and snuggles to give! I’m a great leash walker, I am learning my manners, I am very smart & food motivated!

I would do best in a home without other dogs, or cats. I am a little bit of a wiggle butt, but I have a gentle spirit – I’d likely do well in a home with children that are stable on their feet. I love to run and play in the yards, and I would love an active home that can help me keep my girlish figure!

I am available to meet you, anytime Tuesday–Saturday from 10am–6pm – feel free to bring some tasty snacks. If you have questions about me, or any of my idol’s hit songs – please reach out to my friends at AVASCares2@gmail.com or by phone at 989-348-4117.

Hope I get to meet and jam with you soon!

Cheboygan County Humane Society

Say hello to Marley!

This sweet girl is a three year old,75 pound, hound mix just looking for love. Marley was returned to CCHS after being adopted out as a puppy. Unfortunately for Marley, she doesn’t have many leash manners (but she’s working on it!) and she is the happiest girl here.

Marley is unsure of life when you’re not around so a crate would likely be her best option when left home alone. Marley wasn’t given a fair shot to start out and didn’t have the opportunities with training so she will need work, especially correction when she is doing something in the home that you do not approve of.

Marley LOVES to go on adventures and has done our 30 minute trek with our amazing volunteers numerous times. Marley was around another dog, we’re not sure how they were together so a slow and proper introduction will be key in sending her to a home with other dogs. The hound in Marley has her wanting to chase cats so a home with no cats is best.

Marley has been around kids too and from our understanding, outside of pulling on the leash, she did great with them. All this girl wants to do is love on people, go on adventures, take a good nap because it is hard because as beautiful as she is. This girl is ready to go on every adventure you’re willing to take her on.

For more detials, go to cheboyganhumanesociety.org. Or stop by the shelter at 1535 Hackleburg Road, Cheboygan. Call 231-238-8221 for more information. Shelter hours are Mon-Fri 9-4pm and Saturday noon-4pm.
