Tis the weekend before Christmas, and all though the house, and there is in no way the kids are quiet as a mouse. I’m sure they are very excited for Christmas Eve, Day, and some time off school. Of course, the grownups are just as excited as there are fun events to go to throughout Northern Michigan. I happen to have five events you may enjoy.
Let’s start with Petoskey Men’s Night Out, on Friday, from 5PM-8PM in downtown Petoskey. Whether you’re a last-minute shopper or simply eager to finish your holiday shopping in style, this event is for you. Participating stores will offer a variety of special savings, gifts, prizes, and nibbles. Then, join the After Party at Malted Vinyl, 8pm and enter the Men’s Night Out Drawing. The drawing prize will include gifts from our downtown businesses and will take place at 9:30pm. This way, you have plenty of time to complete your Holiday Shopping in town! This kids will love this one, and your pocketbook or wallet will, too. It is the $1 Kids’ Matinee at the State Theater in Traverse City on Saturday, starting at 10AM. Kids of all ages will enjoy this classic Christmas movie, “The Polar Express.” Tickets are on sale for only $1.00 at StateAndBijou.org
If you love Christmas songs, you’ll enjoy seeing the Accidental with a full orchestra. The Accidentals with Kaboom Collective – Holiday Album Release Concert will be on Saturday… two shows, 3PM & 7:30pm, at Castle Farms in Charlevoix. This is the holiday album you’ve been waiting for from The Accidentals… Live! This 13-track album, created with the highly acclaimed Kaboom Studio Orchestra out of Cleveland, OH, is packed with three-part harmonies, a killer horn section, and gorgeous orchestral scores. Experience it LIVE as The Accidentals perform with the 27-piece Kaboom Studio Orchestra in one of only six Michigan shows on their exclusive holiday tour. With a nod to Sounds of the North, audiences will enjoy a Northern Lights show while singing along to their favorite winter tunes. Details and ticket information at CastleFarms.com
There are also a few Sunday events like, the Solstice Silent Disco at 6PM at the Dennos Museum Center, NMC, Traverse City. Grab a pair of wireless headphones and celebrate the longest night of the year. You have the option to decide your musical vibe as you head to the dance floor or mingle in the galleries. Super Nuclear will be in the house lighting it up! $5-$20. Tickets at simpletix.com/e/solstice-silent-disco-tickets-228032
And last, but not least, the Home for the Holidays, on Sunday, from 3PM-5PM at the Interlochen Center for the Arts, Corson Auditorium. Returning by popular demand, Guest Conductor Jason Altieri leads the TC Phil and Jeffrey Cobb’s NMC Choruses in a festive program of holiday favorites. This year’s special guest is TC native, soprano Hanna Brammer, who is headlining opera companies across the country—making her TC Phil debut with music of the season! $27-$65. Have a fun weekend!
