If you are looking for a new furry family member for your home, please consider adopting from one of our area shelters. There are thousands of pets each year in Northern Michigan who lose their family for one reason or another. Rescue is love!

PET INFORMATION:
Name: Zinnia
Info: Female, 5 years old
Days At the Shelter: 70 days

Pretty girl Zinnia has had a rough start to life, but you’d never know it from her bright spirit and loving heart. After spending some time behind the scenes getting the medical care she needed, she’s finally out on the adoption floor, and she’s doing wonderfully! Zinnia doesn’t let the hard stuff get her down. She’s always in high spirits and ready to soak up attention. This girl is the definition of a love bug. The moment you start petting her, her purr motor switches on – loud and proud! She makes the sweetest little biscuits and will gently rub her head against your forehead like she’s giving you a kitty kiss. All Zinnia wants is to be close to her person, sharing affection and companionship. If you’re looking for a devoted, affectionate companion who will fill your home with purrs and cuddles, Zinnia is ready to start her next chapter with you.

Thank you again for all of your help in finding our furry friends forever homes! Buddy from last week is now on a pending adoption!

Meet this week’s Pet of the Week, Rumi!

Sweet, loyal, and full of personality – that’s Rumi! This sweet Doodle mix came to us as a transfer from downstate. While we don’t know much about her past, we don’t think Rumi had the easiest start in life. Rumi is very cautious of new people and will take some time to accept them into her heart. Once she does though, watch out! This girl is ready to give all the love she has with lots of kisses and nose boops. Rumi would do best in a home with older children due that could respect her space until she is comfortable. She seems curious of other dogs and could do well in a home with other animals given the proper introduction. Rumi’s gentle demeanor make her a great leashed walker and she even appears to be house trained. How could you say no to that scruffy face?!? Stop by and let this gorgeous gal steal your heart!

If you’re interested in meeting Rumi, you can set up an appointment by calling the Charlevoix Area Humane Society at 231-582-6774. She can’t wait to meet you!

Hi I’m Boosie! I’m a six-year-old beagle with a heart as big as my adorable floppy ears! I’ve never met a stranger – if you’ve got hands, I’m ready for pets. I love Love and am happiest when I’m snuggled up next to my people, soaking in all the affection I can get.

Like any true beagle, my nose leads the way! My favorite pastime is exploring the great outdoors and putting my sniffer to work before coming inside for cuddle time.

I previously lived in a home with other large dogs and a young child and did well, but we recommend bringing your family in to meet me prior to adoption! I’m still polishing up my basic manners, but I am familiar with “sit,” “down,” and “wait”. With my eagerness to please (and maybe a tasty treat!), I’m ready to continue to shine.

If you’re looking for a friendly, affectionate, nose-to-the-ground explorer who will also happily be your couch-side snuggle buddy, I might just be your perfect match!

The Little Traverse Bay Humane Society is at 1300 West Conway Road or online at LTBHS.com. They are a private, no kill shelter serving Emmet County.

TC PAWS

Fred was found stray, living outside. A kind neighbor put heated cat houses out for him and contacted us to help. We were not sure if Fred would be friendly, but he was! Poor Fred had severe gingivostomatitis and was chronically in pain. He has since had all of his teeth extracted and has a clean bill of health from the vet. Fred was initially frightened, in pain, and unsure of us. He is now full of love, muffins, and purrs. Fred loves to eat, and his lack of teeth is not a problem. He even loves dry food. He isn’t sure about being picked up or carried, but he loves to be brushed and petted and is a sweet, snuggly guy.

If you would like to meet to adopt Fred, go to our website at www.tcpaw.org and fill out a pre-adoption questionnaire. A TC Paw volunteer will contact you.

Their mission is helping cats and kittens in the greater Traverse City region through rescue, spay/neuter, fostering, adoption, education and community collaboration.

AuSable Valley Animal Shelter

Hi Friends, My name is Charlie. Charlie Chaplin to be exact! I am just over a year old, and I was originally adopted from AVAS as a baby about 1 year ago. Unfortunately, my owner who adopted me, underestimated the commitment a young dog takes and I have a little too much puppy energy for her to handle.

In efforts to do right by me, she reached out to my old friends at AVAS to try and help me find my forever home. I started life with some foundational items, but since I’m just over a year old, I’ll need some help picking up where I left off.

I should mention, I’m housebroken, crate trained, I do well in the car, and I do really well with nail trimming! I seem to enjoy the company of other dogs once I’m properly introduced, and I don’t mind the company of cats! I enjoy all the big people I meet, I haven’t had a lot of experience with children, so older kids that are stable on their feet would be best. It is always recommended to closely supervise any interactions between all dogs and children.

My favorite things are ice cubes, extra hard toys (I like to destroy soft toys), and I love playing fetch! I enjoy extra-long walks, as I’m an active boy.

I need some help with my manners, sometimes I need to be reminded not every new human friend wants a hug, I know how to sit, but I’m still learning other things like shake, lie down, and stay. My recall needs some work, so a fenced in yard would be really exciting for me – but if not – that’s okay! Just something we’ll work on together.

I hope there is a new home that can help me finish all my learning things. Ohh! I should mention – I’m not currently staying at the shelter; my original adopter has agreed to foster me until I find the right fit for a forever home. So if you’d like to meet me – please reach out to the shelter at AVASCares2@gmail.com or by phone at 989-348-4117 to set up a meet and greet.

I’ll leave you with this parting quote from my namesake – “In Three words, I can sum up everything I’ve learned in life – it goes on!” Charlie Chaplin!

Meet Arthur – Your Sweet & Shy Sidekick

Arthur may not be the loudest dog in the room, but he just might be the one who steals your heart.
This handsome terrier mix weighs about 30 lbs and is fully grown at 5 years old — the perfect age if you’re looking for a dog past the puppy chaos but still full of life and love.
Arthur came to us after his previous owners moved and were unable to take him along. Big changes can be hard, and he’s taken some time to adjust, but underneath that shy exterior is a truly sweet and gentle soul.
About Arthur:
• Approximately 30 lbs (full grown)
• 5 years old
• Sweet and shy personality
• Selective with other animals
• Would do well with older children
Arthur may take a little time to warm up, but once he trusts you, you’ll see just how loving and loyal he can be. He’s the kind of dog who forms a deep bond with his people and would thrive in a calm, patient home where he can build confidence at his own pace.
If you’re looking for a quiet companion with a tender heart, Arthur might be your perfect match.
Reach out to learn more or schedule a meet-and-greet with Arthur. His forever home could be just one visit away.
