Pet of the Week 2024

If you are looking for a new furry family member for your home, please consider adopting from one of our area shelters. There are thousands of pets each year in Northern Michigan who lose their family for one reason or another. Rescue is love!

Hello there, I’m Chula. I’m a sweet, gentle soul who loves nothing more than to bring a smile to your face. My loyalty knows no bounds; I’ll be your steadfast companion through thick and thin. I’ve got a heart full of love and I’m just looking for someone to share it with. I promise to fill your days with warmth and unwavering friendship. Adopting me means gaining a friend who’ll cherish every moment spent with you

Meow, I’m Chester, the 12-year-old sage with a heart as vast as my whisker collection. Life’s a gentle melody, and I’ve savored every note in the symphony of existence. My grey and white fur tells tales of wisdom and grace, a testament to the years I’ve spent navigating the world. Though I’ve seen many sunsets, my heart still yearns for the warmth of companionship. Seeking a human confidant for shared sun-dappled afternoons, quiet evenings, and the comfort of understanding glances. If you’re ready for a lifetime of gentle purrs and steady companionship, adopt me, Chester – your loyal and loving feline friend awaits!
You can meet anytime between 10-5. To learn more about them or fill out an adoption application, visit ltbhs.com.

The LTBHS located on West Conway Road, between Petoskey and Harbor Springs is a no kill shelter that helps find homes for over 500 dogs and cats each year. The LTBHS is completely funded thru donations. All pets adopted from LTBHS are neutered and have received a vet check and shots. For more information about all pets available for adoption or to donate, visit them online at www.ltbhs.com

Cherryland Humane Society

Hello, I’m Amour. The world can be a little intimidating, so I take my time to get to know new friends. I prefer quiet spaces and soft voices, they make me feel safe. I may not be the first to greet you, but give me a moment, and I’ll show you my gentle side. I have a soft purr that I reserve for special people. I’m not one for loud noises or sudden movements, but I do enjoy a gentle stroke and a calm environment. Adopting me means you’ll have a loyal companion who will appreciate your patience and reciprocate your love.

Cherryland Humane Society is a private, no kill animal shelter servicing Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties. We are an independent, 501-C, non profit organization. TC PAWS

Stevie was a stray found in Interlochen, turned over to TC Paw, and placed in a foster home. He was skittish at first, but has warmed up. Stevie is an energetic guy who jumps really high and does flips. He loves to play with toys on poles or that he can bat around and loves to follow his foster mom around. We believe Stevie may have been an outside cat. He is poised at times to get out the door. He wants room to run and the challenge to hunt, so he’ll need a careful owner who will commit time to play with him. If he gets too excited in play, he may bite, but his foster family has worked on that. Stevie is also learning what “No” means. In his quiet times, Stevie loves head and chin scratches, sleeping in the cat tower, and watching the squirrels out the window. He’ll do well in a home with experienced cat owners who will keep up the good work his foster family has done in bringing out the affectionate cat Stevie has in him. This handsome guy is 1 1/2 years old. He is a short hair tabby and white. You can meet Stevie at PetSmart this week. If you would like to adopt Stevie or for more information, go to our website at www.tcpaw.org

TC Paw Cat Rescue was formed in the Spring of 2023 after the well-known northern Michigan rescue group AC PAW retired their rescue program for cats and dogs. Their mission is helping cats and kittens in the greater Traverse City region through rescue, spay/neuter, fostering, adoption, education and community collaboration.

From the Charlevoix Humane Society

The puppies found their way to the shelter via owner surrender back in January. They came in a litter of 6: 4 boys and 2 girls. They are energetic and are super sweet puppies. They’re pretty gentle but do jump a lot, as puppies do. Puppy classes are required after adoption.

The Charlevoix Human Society’s mission is to practice and promote the principle that every life is precious. As such, we are committed to the highest principles of humane care and professional treatment of injured, ill, neglected or abused animals. For more information on pets that are available for adoption or to donate, visit the shelter at 614 Beardsley Street in Boyne City or online at www.charlevoixhumane.org

 From AuSable Valley Animal Shelter

Meet Dimitri, a two-year-old very sweet male Husky. As a Husky, he is obviously an energetic guy who loves to run and would do well with an experienced Husky family. How he does with other dogs, cats, and kids, is unknown at this time. Dimitri is neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, and microchipped. For more information on Dimitri, please call 989-348-4117 or email us at avascares2@gmail.com.

AuSable Valley Animal is a privately funded nonprofit animal shelter. We are a No Kill facility and stray center for dogs within Crawford county and a closed admission No Kill cat shelter. Our main goals are rehab and rehome, education, and animal welfare within our community.

From Cheboygan County Humane Society

Dozer is a 3 year old male Hound Mix who is here at the shelter looking for his forever home. He is such a lover boy and WILL hog all of your attention. Dozer is great with kids, cats and other dogs but a proper introduction is always necessary to ensure that everyone gets along and is comfortable! He may need some training once he gets into a new environment but he is very smart and eager to learn. Dozer does love to run and chase things, so a fenced in yard may be ideal for him so he can still get his exercise. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. His adoption fee is $120.

Please visit their website at cheboyganhumanesociety.org. Or stop by the shelter at 1535 Hackleburg Road, Cheboygan. Call 231-238-8221 for more information. Shelter hours are Mon-Fri 9-4pm and Saturday noon-4pm.
