For this final weekend in April, we have a variety of fun events. Food, a festival, music, and just plain fun.
First, we have what I consider the start of the spring festivals. The 89th Annual National Trout Festival goes from now thru Sunday at either the Kalkaska County Fairgrounds or downtown Kalkaska at Railroad Square. There will be so many event during the festival, it will be hard to do it all. Kids fishing contests, concerts, the National Trout Festival Parade, Classic Car Show, Pizza Eating Contest, and Bump-n-Run. Complete details and daily events are at NationalTroutFestival.com.
Next, we have a variety of restaurants offering something for everyone at the 12th Annual Glen Lake Restaurant Week, from Friday, April 24 – Saturday, May 2nd in the Glen Lake Area. From casual bites to gourmet dining, participating businesses will feature specials or a prix-fixe menu that highlights the best of the local culinary scene. Whether you’re craving comfort food, fresh local ingredients, or an elevated dining experience, there’s something for every palate. Some may also offer breakfast and lunch specials in addition to dinner. A complete list of participating restaurants and their menus are at VisitGlenArbor.com on their events page.
If you enjoy the sounds of violins, perhaps a date night attending the orchestra may be something to consider as The Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra presents “Violins of Hope,” this Saturday starting 7pm at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts. This event will feature a violin restored from the Holocaust, honoring Jewish musical heritage, championing resilience, hope and the enduring power of music. For tickets and more information, go to: greatlakescfa.org.
If you’d rather see a show at the theaters, how about seeing “Love’s Labour’s Lost”, this Saturday evening at 7:30PM at the Interlochen Center for the Arts’ Harvey Theatre.
Enjoy Shakespeare’s comedy “Love’s Labour’s Lost,” where a group of noblemen vow to avoid the company of women to focus on study & self-discipline only to find their plans hilariously undone when the Princess of France & her ladies arrive. Ticket prices go from $19-$24. For tickets and further details, go to Interlochen.org.
On Sunday, show your support for autism acceptance on Sunday at the 11th Annual Autism Acceptance Walk, starting at 9AM at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Boyne City.
This event is sponsored by North Country Community Mental Health. The walk is approximately a half mile. All Autistic individuals, family, friends, & the community are invited to join together to walk in support of Autism awareness.
