Pet of the Week 2025

If you are looking for a new furry family member for your home, please consider adopting from one of our area shelters. There are thousands of pets each year in Northern Michigan who lose their family for one reason or another. Rescue is love!

Cherryland Humane Society

Hello, I’m Space Dandy! I’m a a three year old mellow fellow with a playful streak. My curiosity often leads me on exciting adventures. I’m brave, but gentle; I’ll explore new territories, but always return for a cuddle.

I’m smart too; I’ve mastered many tricks and games. My energy is infectious, but I also enjoy quiet moments of companionship. I’m loyal to those I love and will always be by your side.

I’m the perfect mix of adventurous and calm, playful yet sweet. I’m waiting for a family who will cherish my unique spirit. Adopt me, and let’s explore the universe together! Please ask my friends at the shelter about my medical needs. I am looking for a home without cats.

Cherryland Humane Society is a private, no kill animal shelter servicing Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties. We are an independent, 501-C, non profit organization. CHS is dependent on donations, fundraising activities, estates, planned giving, memorials and occasional grants for operation. Visit our available pets online at cherrylandhumane.org

TC PAWS

Luna
Domestic Long Hair / Tabby
Medium Adult Female (spayed)
A year old

Luna was found as a spayed stray in a trailer park. Since she had been outside for several months, we suspect she was left behind by an owner.

In her TC Paw foster home, Luna is a gentle cat, increasingly comfortable and extremely affectionate. She has lovely green eyes and a beautiful long coat which she loves to have brushed. She likes to be talked to.

She’s easy to handle, doesn’t seem to mind other cats, and is very gentle with children. Luna is an easy-going cat who will be a loving family pet.

If you are interested in adopting this TC Paw cat or would like to set up a meet-and-greet, please complete the  Pre-adoption Application .

TC Paw Cat Rescue was formed in the Spring of 2023 after the well-known northern Michigan rescue group AC PAW retired their rescue program for cats and dogs. Their mission is helping cats and kittens in the greater Traverse City region through rescue, spay/neuter, fostering, adoption, education and community collaboration.

Northern Purr Cat Rescue in St. Helen (Roscommon County)

Meet Taz. She is a senior gal at 12 years old looking for a quiet home. She is not a fan of dogs and has not been around cats. Her purrfect home would be an older couple or someone that will let her be the queen of the castle. She is ok being left alone. Taz does like to play. She is not a lap cat but will be close by to keep you company and will let you know when she would like attention.

Contact: Cathy Cleland with Northern Purr Rescue 989-387-1011.

Charlevoix Humane Society

Meet Betsy!
This little cutie is a six month old mixed breed puppy who was surrendered with her three brothers. She can be a little bit shy at first in unfamiliar situations, but is quick to open up to people. Betsy is full of puppy energy and loves to play with friends and toys! Because she is young and excitable, she is still working on some of her manners. But she is eager to learn and to please with a bit of guidance. Betsy could do well in a home with a canine companion, so long as they like to play! She hasn’t met a cat before, so we’re unsure how she might feel about them.

Betsy has done well with her potty training so far and is known to keep her kennel pretty clean while staff is away. A home with young children may not be the best option for Betsy while she is still young, as she does have a habit of jumping up when she gets excited. She just can’t contain herself when meeting people sometimes! Our volunteers say that Betsy does wonderfully on a leash and loves going on walks. If you’re searching for a best friend on four legs, Betsy is the pup for you!

AuSable Valley Animal Shelter

Hi! I’m Bruno, a big ol’ goofball named after Bruno Mars! Unlike the singer, I’m a bit picky with doggy friends, so I’ll need a meet-and-greet at the shelter before we call it a match. I’m about 3 to 4 years old, a large mixed breed, and I LOVE treats, hugs, and giving slobbery kisses!

When I arrived at the shelter, I didn’t know what boundaries or manners were, but the staff has helped me improve so much. I’m still learning not to jump when I’m excited and how to take treats more gently, but I promise I’m trying! I bond deeply with my favorite people, but trust takes time—so you’ll need to visit me a few times to help me warm up.

A couple things about me:
*No cats, please (high prey drive here!).
*I’d do best in a calm, kid-free home.
*I’m AWESOME in the car and love a good road trip.

I’m neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to find my special human! If you’re patient and ready for a loyal, loving buddy, come meet me—I’ve been dreaming of my forever home!

If you’d like to meet me, please come by Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM to 6 PM. If you have any questions, give the shelter a jingle at 989-348-4117 or email them at AVAScares2@gmail.com.

Cheboygan County Humane Society

Breed: Mixed Breed
Age: 2 years old
Sex: Male
Color: Brown/White
Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Meet Ranger! As you can see, Ranger LOVES to play! This silly boy is always ready to chase a ball or run around the yard. Ranger does not care for most other dogs and honestly young kids may be a bit much for him. However, we are not really sure as he was brought in by Animal Control as a stray. Ranger was running loose for sometime in survival mode until he made himself comfortable in someone’s open garage. We think he would excel in a home where he is the only dog, with someone who can give him their undivided attention. Ranger is an absolute goofball and would definitely bring so much joy and laughter to that special persons life

cheboyganhumanesociety.org. Or stop by the shelter at 1535 Hackleburg Road, Cheboygan. Call 231-238-8221 for more information. Shelter hours are Mon-Fri 9-4pm and Saturday noon-4pm.
