Cherryland Humane Society
Nice to meet you! The name’s Nimi. They tell me I’m an older gentleman at ten years old, but I like to think of myself as “experienced.” If you’re looking for someone with puppy energy, you’ll have to look for some other young whippersnapper. That’s not to say I don’t get excited for a chicken treat, and I’m not afraid to use my voice when there’s something I’d like! I also enjoy my morning walk. I do like to think of myself as a snazzy dresser, even if I’m a little old fashioned. My friends call me distinguished, and say that I’m quite the conversationalist. You’ll have to come by and meet me to see if that’s true!
Since I am in my golden years, there are a few senior needs I have, be sure to ask the nice folks at CHS for more information about that. Like any dog at retirement age, I’m looking for a home where I’ll get lots of scratches, plenty of naps, and a fair amount of snuggles. I have potential with other dogs, cats, and dog savvy kids. Could you be the home for me?
TC PAWS
We have a BONDED pair this week with TC Paw Cat Rescue: Maureen and Izzy. Maureen is the long fur brown and Izzy is the dark torti fur..
Maureen is a friendly, confident cat who looks you right in the eye. She kind of flirts with you by rolling on her back when she wants something. Really cute. She’s a pretty cat with a mane around her face, a bushy tail, soft fur, and eyes that go from gold to green in different light. She’s quick on her feet and likes to stand on shoulders or chair backs to be close and observe. She uses her scratching post regularly. Maureen loves attention. Pick her up and hold her to your chest, talk to her, and let her curl up in your lap. She looks out the window and chatters at birds. When she’s hungry, Maureen will nibble and lick the ends of your fingers. Maybe it’s a behavior left over from being a hungry stray that will fade when she’s confident that there’s plenty of food.
Our other cat, Izzy, is lovey, has a loud purr, and likes to be picked up and held. She has beautiful green eyes, a shiny tortoiseshell coat, and an orange spot on her rear paws. She’s quick on her feet, uses her scratching post, likes to stretch out, and enjoys exploring high, low and small spaces. When it’s naptime, she finds a quiet spot. Possibly because she was so hungry as a stray, Izzy has a big appetite and will finish a slower cat’s food. Her foster intervenes, and we think this behavior will fade as Izzy gets more confident that there’s plenty of food.
These girls are bonded, and we feel they need to stay together. Check Maureen’s and Izzy’s pages and see if you have room in your home and heart for this pretty pair.

Meet Taz! She is a senior gal at 12 years old looking for a quiet home. She is not a fan of dogs and has not been around cats. Her purrfect home would be an older couple or someone that will let her be the queen of the castle. She is ok being left alone. Taz does like to play. She is not a lap cat but will be close by to keep you company and will let you know when she would like attention.

This beautiful lady is Freya! Freya ended up at our shelter as an unclaimed stray. She is a mature female Catahoula Leopard Dog. The Catahoula is a breed known for herding and their undying loyalty, but they also need regular exercise. Though it can be hard to tell with strays, we believe that Freya is approximately six years old. She is very affectionate and athletic and even knows how to sit! She’ll impress you with her blazing speed and smarts! Freya has beautiful soft hair that will likely require regular grooming. She enjoys going on walks and frolicking in the yard, so an active home where she can run and play all day would be best for her. Freya doesn’t get along with all dogs and may not do well with cats. She can be a bit shy around strangers upon first meeting. But once she’s warmed up to you, she’ll be your best friend for life! If you’re interested in meeting Freya you can set up an appointment with us. She can’t wait to meet you!
Adopting a pet from the Charlevoix Area Humane Society not only changes the life of an animal but also enriches your own life in countless ways. If you would like to adopt one of our dogs or cats, you will need to fill out an application and once it is approved, we can then set up an appointment for a visit. Please call 231-582-6774 with any questions.

I’m Oreo, and if it fits (or even if it doesn’t fits), I’s sits. That’s my life motto. I’m really a shy sort of guy, and if you can’t tell from my photos, I’m a bit of a double stuff Oreo. I enjoy spending my time hiding in cubbies and enjoying my zzz’s.
Only problem is: I’m a little too big for some of those cubbies, so my booty will be sticking out, and that’s how you can spot me! I am a boy that appreciates attention but does not necessarily demand it 24/7. Sometimes just leaving me be to my naps is preferred. You wouldn’t want to be disturbed in the middle of a nice cookie-flavored dream, would ya?
If you dream of sugar plums and fairies, you might be the cherry on top that my sundae is missing. I’m neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, so I’m ready to go! Just notify the shelter if you are interested in me at 989-348-4117 or email them at avascares2@gmail.com.

Say hello to Marley! This sweet girl is a three year old hound mix just looking for love. She loves to make friends with anyone and anything! All Marley wants to do is be by your side, regardless of what you’re up to. She enjoys being with someone so much so, that she gets a fair bit of separation anxiety when she is alone and would do best crated in those situations. She does know a few basic commands and does well on a leash!
