Pet of the Week 2026

If you are looking for a new furry family member for your home, please consider adopting from one of our area shelters. There are thousands of pets each year in Northern Michigan who lose their family for one reason or another. Rescue is love!

Cherryland Humane Society

PET INFORMATION:
Name: Kory
Info: Female, 3 years old
Days At the Shelter: 281 days

Hello! Nice to meet you! I’m Kory. I’m a friendly gal and if you pass by my condo, I may even say hello. If you’re looking for a conversation I’m the one for you. I’m also super curious, I love to watch the world past the window, and to watch the fish swimming in the cattery. I’m the perfect buddy for birdwatching, and I’m sure to scale the top of your cat tree!

Come by and meet me and we could be BFFs. I am FIV+ which means I have a weaker immune system. With management, (regular vet care, keeping UTD on vaccines, monitoring for illness, etc); I’ll live a long, healthy, happy life! I love people, but I’d prefer to be the only kitty! Please ask my friends at Cherryland about my behavioral needs.

Also, please call us to make an appointment to meet Kory. She is currently in a foster home and is thriving there but we coordinate with them to bring her into the shelter for meet and greets.

Cherryland Humane Society is a private, no kill animal shelter servicing Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties. We are an independent, 501-C, non profit organization. CHS is dependent on donations, fundraising activities, estates, planned giving, memorials and occasional grants for operation. Visit our available pets online at cherrylandhumane.org

TC PAWS

Meet Lexi!

While Lexi gets along with other cats with a gentle introduction, she would thrive best in a peaceful, adult-only home. Experienced cat owners will appreciate her unique personality and needs. Although she tolerates dogs, her ideal environment is one where she can reign as the sole pet.

Lexi is a beautiful 5.8-year-old calico. If you’re ready to provide a loving home for this sweet talker, visit www.tcpaw.org to fill out a pre-adoption questionnaire. A TC Paw volunteer will contact you. Take the first step toward welcoming Lexi into your heart.

If you would like to meet to adopt Lexi, go to our website at www.tcpaw.org and fill out a pre-adoption questionnaire. A TC Paw volunteer will contact you.

TC Paw Cat Rescue was formed in the Spring of 2023 after the well-known northern Michigan rescue group AC PAW retired their rescue program for cats and dogs. Their mission is helping cats and kittens in the greater Traverse City region through rescue, spay/neuter, fostering, adoption, education and community collaboration.

This sweet senior is Zoey!

Zoey was transferred to us from a shelter downstate, so unfortunately we don’t know much about her background, but it is clear that she lived in a home at some point. Zoey is clearly house trained and keeps her kennel immaculate, she also seems to know some basic commands as well. While Zoey may be considered a senior, she is still full of spunk and loves to romp around the yard. She does seem to have some discomfort in her hips and this becomes more noticeable after she has been walking or playing, so we tend to keep her activity levels low.

Zoey is happy to greet anyone that walks through our door and enjoys spending time in our front office greeting those that stop by. Zoey seems to do great with children of all ages, but would likely do best in a home where children can respect her space.

Zoey seems to do well with some of the male dogs here, but does not seem to care for the females. A home with a male dog friend or an only dog home would be ideal for her. We are unsure of how she would do with cats.

If you’re interested in meeting Zoey, you can set up an appointment by calling the Charlevoix Area Humane Society at 231-582-6774. She can’t wait to meet you!

Little Traverse Bay Humane Society

Hey, I’m Bruce! I’m a 5-year-old brown Shepherd-Lab mix with a big heart, a loyal spirit, and a half tail that wags twice as hard. It might be shorter, but trust me-it gets the message across!

I’m smart, friendly, and always ready for adventure, whether it’s a walk, a sniff-around, or a cuddle break. I love being close to my humans and I’m happiest when I’m part of the action. If you’re looking for a devoted, easygoing buddy with classic good looks and a very enthusiastic half-tail wag, I’d love to meet you.

The Little Traverse Bay Humane Society is at 1300 West Conway Road or online at LTBHS.com. They are a private, no kill shelter serving Emmet County.

AuSable Valley Animal Shelter

Hey Everyone! My name is Bianca, and the staff named me this because.. I’m the Queen Bee!

A little bit about me, the staff wasn’t kidding when they gave me this name because well, I like to beeeee in charge! I am roughly 1 year old, and I’m a medium mixed breed girl – weighing in at about 50lbs. I’m spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and I’m up to date on my heartworm testing! That’s right, I’m good to go, and ready for my new home!

As I said, I like to be the Queen Bee when it comes to other dogs. I want to be the center of your world. That being said, I might do well living in a home with another dog, provided my new family takes the time to slowly and properly introduce me to my new home and my new furry siblings. I shouldn’t be given all of the freedoms right away – I should earn them slowly to help me remember I’m part of a family and not flying solo any more. I also might do well living with a cat, given a proper introduction and time to warm up to them.

If you would like to meet me – stop by the shelter Tuesday-Saturday 10am-6pm. If you have questions give my friends a shout at AVASCares2@gmail.com or reach them by phone at 989-348-4117. Hope to see you soon!

Meet Bruno — your next favorite hello and hardest goodbye (because you’ll never want to leave him).

Bruno is an 8-year-young gentleman who somehow keeps getting overlooked, and honestly? We don’t get it. This handsome guy wandered in as a stray and has been patiently waiting at CCHS ever since, hoping his person would finally find him.
Bruno is the kind of dog who lives life out loud. He’s silly, affectionate, and full of happy energy — the type who greets every day like it’s the best one yet. Walks with Bruno are enthusiastic (okay, very enthusiastic), and once he’s gotten his wiggles out, he’s more than happy to curl up beside you for snuggles and a good old man nap… complete with snores.

He’s incredibly people-oriented and would thrive as the only pet in the home, soaking up all the love and attention he’s been missing. Bruno doesn’t want much — just a couch, a human, and a forever place to finally call home. He’s waited long enough. Let’s not make him wait anymore. Come meet Bruno and see why everyone who knows him falls in love

For more detials, go to cheboyganhumanesociety.org. Or stop by the shelter at 1535 Hackleburg Road, Cheboygan. Call 231-238-8221 for more information. Shelter hours are Mon-Fri 9-4pm and Saturday noon-4pm.
