In 1926, radium was a miracle cure, Madame Curie an international celebrity, and luminous watches the latest rage—until the girls who painted them began to fall ill with a mysterious disease Young women worked in factories and used radium paint to make watches and clocks glow in the dark. But they never knew the dangers. So they would use it as make up or hold the paint brush between their teeth, subjecting themselves to lethal exposure. The play Radium Girls, is being presented at the Old Town Playhouse Friday April 5, and Saturday April 6, at 7:30. Tickets at OldTownPlayhouse.com
